PROBE is a pop-up research festival at Trinity College Dublin, showcasing research conducted by its students and staff. Like any proper festival, there was food and music; but like any proper scientific showcase, there were a lot of poster boards! It was good to see such a diverse audience - little kids especially appreciated the hands-on exhibits like the augmented reality sandbox (okay, I really liked that one too...). While most work was done by PhD students, there was a project by an undergrad that involved creating a database of stained artwork by Harry Clarke and linking them to their locations on a map.
Projects like that are my jam: creating usable apps and guides about the art and history of a city to make those subjects easier for people to learn about. It encourages digital and physical exploration (....kind of like the sandbox. Sand is also my jam, apparently).
